The fascinating thing about some breeds of parrots is their ability to recognize repetitive human behavior whether or not the person is conscious of it. Training a pet bird to say its name is one thing, but when it mimics the way its owner clears his throat before each sentence, or says “Go Get Me A Beer” every time his wife enters the room, the parrot can deliver a rude awakening.

Humans are repetitive creatures. There are some, however, whose initial charm is offset when every subsequent interaction with them feels the same or when you overhear them repeating the same joke they just told you.

This piece explores an extreme personality type who continues to recycle their remarks, stories and gestures, almost as if each act were controlled by a small parrot residing somewhere in the body. The figure is made up of interconnected perches and its open-armed gesture is meant to engage the viewer personally. Closer scrutinization of this individual eventually reveals that they’re a little full of shit.
